Music

As a church school we believe that every person, every child, and every adult is unique and special with God given gifts and talents which is our job to nurture and cherish.

Aims and Objectives

Music is a practical and creative expression of ideas, thoughts and feelings. It provides opportunities to promote pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and contributes strongly to the ethos and wider life of the school.

In line with the National Curriculum, our music curriculum aims to enable pupils to:

  • perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of significant composers and musicians;
  • learn to sing and use their voices, create and compose music independently and with others, and have opportunities to learn and play musical instruments;
  • use technology appropriately where it supports musical creation, performance, recording or understanding;
  • understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated through the inter-related dimensions of pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notation;
  • develop confidence, creativity, musicianship, enjoyment and an increasingly rich musical vocabulary.
