White Rose Maths

At our school, we use the White Rose Maths scheme of learning as the foundation of our mathematics curriculum. The scheme has been carefully adapted and tailored to meet the needs of our pupils and to reflect the aims and values of our school.

Learning is sequenced through small, manageable steps, enabling pupils to build secure mathematical understanding over time. New concepts are introduced progressively, with opportunities for pupils to practise, apply, and consolidate their learning before moving on. This approach supports all learners in developing confidence and competence in mathematics.

Teachers use adaptive teaching to ensure that all pupils can access the same ambitious curriculum. Lessons are carefully planned to include a range of scaffolds and support strategies, such as the use of manipulatives, visual representations, mathematical vocabulary, and guided practice. These adaptations help pupils to develop a deep understanding of mathematical concepts while maintaining high expectations for all.

Alongside support, pupils are provided with opportunities for challenge and deeper thinking. Through reasoning, problem-solving, and rich mathematical discussion, children are encouraged to explain their thinking, make connections between concepts, and apply their learning in a variety of contexts.
