Botanical Gardens Trip

Then the children had the opportunity to meet a number of animals; an African snail, a cockroach, a corn snake and a bearded dragon.

 

 

After lunch was the Rainforest Workshop.

The children learnt about layers of the rainforest, the fruit found in the rainforest, such as coconuts, bananas and a buttpeach.

They were shown different materials that are used for clothes, furniture and musical instruments such as bamboo and rubber

and dangerous animals like the 'Dart Frog'.  

 

 

Last house to visit was the Arid House (lots of Cacti). Then a stroll through the gardens, looking at the Alpine Greenhouse and saying hello to the Koi Carp.

ICT – Working through a number of coding programmes, to understand flowcharts and algorithms.

PE – The children continued working on their tennis skills and completing a couple of games to improve their target skills.

 

 

Maths Workshop 

The children were lucky enough to have 2 volunteers in school through the National Numeracy Team – Richard, Service Operations Director at Experian, and Leah, Business Analyst from Capital One. Their sessions looked at 'Maths in the Real World'. The children discussed how various professionals use mathematics in their jobs and hobbies, which sparked their curiosity and enthusiasm for the subject.

 

 

World Book Day 2026

 

 

 

 

During the morning, the children took part in three workshops. A sea shanty dance taught by Mrs Richardson and then Mrs Gresswell asked the children to redesign the front cover of her favourite book – Barnaby. Miss Price gave all the children a big heart and asked them to write positive things about themselves.

In the afternoon, the children enjoyed a theatre performance of 'Pinocchio'.

 

 

History – Looking at the Anglo-Saxton Goddesses and Gods.

For the afternoon, the children turned into a Goddess or God.

They had to pick a new name, describe their special power and whether they had a special object or special pet.

 

 

World Book Day with the National Literacy Trust and the National League Primary Stars
Online Quiz – The Great World Footy and Booky Quiz

The children saw a number of football stars, explaining the importance of reading and the kind of books they enjoy reading.

They also saw a number of authors showing and reading from their own books.

During the online lesson, the children were answering a number of quiz questions based around football.  

 

PE – Tennis – to continue to control bat and ball and to start hitting across the net to a partner. 

 

Literacy – discussing and planning their '5 sentence stories' based around food, inspired by Michael Rosen

 

World Book Day – online lesson with Michael Rosen and others

To kick off the week of World Book Day, we joined Michael Rosen, Allen Fatimaharan, Sandra A Agard and Emily Hanna-Grazebrook for a delicious journey through food-related global tales. Exploring stories from around the world, this interactive livestreamed session featured mysterious treats, tempting wonders and magical morsels.

 

ICT - safeguard - online relationships 

Looking at who we should trust or not trust online.

 

RE - Maundy Thursday 'Feet Washing' where Jesus washed the feet of his disciples. 

Miss Price washed the feet of a number of children. The children were asked to think about how the disciples were feeling about Jesus washing their feet and how the children felt about Miss Price washing their feet. 

 
RE - 'The Last Supper' - Maundy Thursday

The Last Supper refers to the final meal that Jesus shared with his disciples before his crucifixion.

As a class, we recreated the last supper by taking bread and water (wine).

Thinking about how Jesus and the disciples were feeling and what they were thinking. 

 

RE - celebrating 'Palm Sunday' when Jesus entered Jerusalem riding on his donkey.

We made a walkway, waving palm leaves, saying kind words to celebrate uniqueness.
