Finished product at home (bread making):

Year 1 and 2 - Challah Jewish bread for Shabbat:

The children took their bread dough home to bake and discuss with their adults at home and share their knowledge of Jewish celebration of Shabbat. 

Reception: Creating a shape out of dough: 

The children took their bread dough home to bake and discuss which shape they had made it into such as, Square, triangle etc...

Bread making:

As a class we made bread dough. We measured out using cups and table spoons and estimated how much water we might need. The children worked together to create the dough. We then left the dough to rise. Year 1 and 2 children then tried to plait the dough as we have been learning about Shabbat in RE and have learnt that Jewish people we bake or buy the Challah bread (special sweet plaited bread) for Shabbat which begins on a Friday evening and lasts until Saturday evening. 

Science - Materials and changing shape:

We have been looking at materials and changing shape of them. We looked at different liquids and how the thickness is different we then looked at corn flour and how it can be both a solid and a liquid and how it changes. Year 2s then went on to predict which materials they thought would be waterproof before testing them out and recording their findings. 

Balance bikes:

Parks' have had a wonderful time having a go no the balance bikes. 

Computing:

We have been practising logging on and off laptops and logging into Purple Mash. Year 1 and 2 children have been looking at coding, which links to part of our maths on position and direction. Then as a class, we looked at using the Beebot to program to get to the end of the line.  

Roman forts:

We have looked at the local history of Derby and the fact it started as a Roman fort. We looked at Roman forts and have built an enclosed fort out of lego. 

Part- Whole model:

Reception children have been practising their part whole models outside.    

Handa's Surprise sequencing:

We read Handa's surprise and tasted lots of different pieces of fruit which the children loved which then lead to a lot of discussion on what they tasted like and what thy liked and didn't like. We then focused more on the story and sequenced what happened in the story before creating a story mountain changing some aspects of the story and then wrote our own Handa's surprise story. 

Puppets:

We introduced puppets into our PSHE sessions introducing them as a new member to the class and how they might be feeling and how we can support them. 

Music:

Exploring pitch. 

PSHE - Emotions:

Wow! We were amazed by how many emotions we could name and then we had a go at showing the emotions on our faces. 

Making sentences:

Great teamwork, building sentences together using a what, where, when and who. 

Exploring water colour:

We have had lots of fun exploring water colours and mixing our own colours and creating different shades of colours.
