Curriculum Intent
Curriculum
We have high ambition and expectation for the achievement and personal development of all our children. Our curriculum is broad, balanced and ambitious and is designed to give pupils the knowledge, vocabulary, skills and experiences they need to succeed at Stanley St Andrew’s and in the next stage of their education.
Our local context is an important part of our curriculum. We draw on pupils’ knowledge and understanding of Stanley village and the surrounding farming community, using the local environment and real-life experiences as meaningful starting points for learning. From these foundations, we deliberately expand pupils’ horizons so that they develop a secure understanding of Britain and the wider world.
Our Christian distinctiveness and school values underpin the curriculum. We believe every child is unique, valued and capable of flourishing. We provide opportunities for pupils to develop curiosity, independence, resilience, responsibility and respect for others, while ensuring that subject-specific knowledge and progression remain clear.
As a small school with mixed-age classes, our curriculum is organised through multi-year cycles that secure statutory coverage and avoid unnecessary repetition. Leaders are continuing to refine curriculum sequencing and progression to ensure that new learning builds systematically on what pupils have previously been taught and prepares them effectively for future learning.
