SMILERS
Smilers:
As a school we have worked closely with Derbyshire County Council to be part of the launch of their SMILERS campaign. Smilers is an acronym to help us remember the things we can do to improve our own mental health. This is for grown-ups, as well as for children.
Positive mental health is an essential part of children’s overall health—has a complex interactive relationship with their physical health and their ability to succeed in school, at work, and in society. Both physical and mental health affect how we think, feel, and act on the inside and outside. Mental health is important throughout childhood—from prenatal considerations through transitions to adulthood.
In School we have a range of pathways to support mental health, as you can see below.
We have shared what Smilers stands for with our children.

We have spoken as a group on what smilers means and we are going to share with the whole school during collective worship.
This term we are focussing on staying connected by welcoming our new children into school and we have completed a questionnaire to see if anyone is aware of what smilers is.
November 2025
We have joined up with our school council to do a whole school movement activity at break time. The children decided on 4 stations and they spent a few minutes at each station.
January 2026
This half term we are looking at special interests and the children are getting ready to present their ideas to the whole school. We have been discussing guiding and scouting, sports, dance, swimming, reading and being able just to relax at home.
