Spring 1
Below is the link to the Spring 1 overview:
First aid
We took part in a first aid workshop in school and learnt what number to call in an emergency. We also learnt to put someone in the recovery position and how to give CPR.

Animals
We had some animals come into school to visit us this week. We saw and held an Owl, Tarantula, Snake, Tenrec, Armadillo and Millipede.

Sculptures:

We can't wait to share our finished sculptures with you all at our open classroom event. The children have worked incredibly hard on these and came up against a few challenges, such as how to stick plastic to cardboard, how to hold something in place whilst trying to glue at the same time and many more. All the children supported one another and were able to ask for help if needed. Our sculptures are now ready for the next stage, which is painting ready to be displayed in our Parks Zoo.
Transporting:

Wow, what amazing problem-solving! Reception have worked hard together trying different ways to get the water from one side to the other. The reception children talked and listened to one another, tested different ways and resolved problems they came up against to successfully get the water from one side to the other.
Working together:

The year 2 children have been supporting our year 1 children as well as challenging themselves to try and explain the processes in maths to someone else. The children have shown amazing patience, resilience and teamwork.
Phonic:

Year 1 children have been playing phonic games to practise identifying sounds we have learnt in real and alien words. Children have worked well together, taking turns and supporting one another.
7 & 8:

All things 7 and 8! The children went on a hunt to find 7 things , how can we make 7 (what is 7 made up of).
Habitats:

We read a story about perfect pets, the Barnabus project, which explores the idea of mixing up animals, such as Barnabus is half elephant and half mouse. The children created their own animal by mixing the two together. We had a giraffe and a snake, snake and scorpion, a tiger and a lion and so many more wonderful new animals. We then set to work deciding what kind of habitat the new animals would need, and we had great discussions about what each animal needs and therefore, where in the world would be the best place for them to survive. We then created the animals' habitats and shared their reasons why with the rest of the class.
Poo investigation:

Parks had a great time exploring the three different kinds of poo as scientists. The children explored each type of poo to decide what kind of animal may have made the poo; a carnivore, herbivore or omnivore. This lead onto discussions about animals habitats and how that impacts on what they eat.
Maths with reception children
The children were playing a game of bingo with number cards and then played a game using the dot cards. The children played with the adult leading then they did it independently.

Ict
We all looked at how to turn on the laptop and year one and two children accessed a spreadsheet on purple mash. The reception children turned on the computer and were encouraged to try to log on to the laptop.
