Autumn 2 Overview

Polar Express day

We had great fun today on our Polar Express day. We had to find a golden ticket in order to board the train and kept this with us all day as we travelled to 3 stops including Christmas decorations, snow and being thankful in the Eco garden. When we came back inside we had found that we had a special word ahead been written on our tickets. We had such a wonderful day and made lots of great memories.

Acting out the nativity story

The Reception children acted out the Nativity story using puppets and dressing up. They also used bricks to make a stable.

Reindeer dash

This morning we did a sponsored run around the playground.

Year one and two at Broomfield college

This afternoon we went to Broomfield college to do lots of different activities. We practised jumping, throwing, running and had such great fun.

ICT

Today the year one and two's have been looking at paintings on Purple mash and discovering pointillism and how to create a picture.
The receptions have been playing a game on the tablets and discovering how to turn the volume up and down and swapping games.

Christmas wrapping station:

We are having lots of fun wrapping presents for, under our Christmas tree.

Nativity performance:

Wow! What an incredible Nativity performance. Well done Parks!

Christmas has arrived:

Thank you to parents and grandparents who have donated lots of amazing Christmas bits and bobs so we could create our Santa workshop - wrapping station. All of the children are very eager to get stuck into this area.

Numicon:

Reception have explored Numicon and absolutely love the resource. They have made pictures using the Numicon and counted up how much the picture is worth, as well as made number lines with the piece exploring one more and one less.

Phonic:

Our children working hard on their writing through spag and phonic inputs. Year 2 are exploring different types of sentences, year 1s are learning the alternative igh sound and reception recapping the sounds they have been taught so far.

Number formation:

Reception children have been using chalk outside to support their number formation of numbers to 10.

Shapes:

We are exploring shapes as a class. Reception have identified the four basic shapes and have used these to build pictures. Year 1 and 2 children have identified more shapes, how many sides, how many vertices and started to answer word problems using shapes and patterns.

Science

Today we have been learning about liquids and whether they can easily be stirred or not. We compared water, oil, glue, cornflour and washing up liquid.

ICT

We have been practising logging onto the school computers and getting onto purple mash to complete an activity. Receptions had a go at turning the iPad on and playing a game.

Geography

We have been looking at maps and discussing where we live.

Science:

We started our science units by identifying different materials and talking about their properties. Year 2 then went on to explore how we can change the shape of some materials using different skills such as, rolling, twisting etc...

DT

This afternoon we introduced our DT for this term. We talked about vehicles and what they were and what they did. We explored various vehicles including cars, trains, tractors, and buses.

We then built a sleigh shape together with our big bricks.

Imagination:

Wow! We set our children the challenge of building a town from our Geography unit of work, and they made this together by talking and listening to one another. Well done Parks!

Making shapes

This morning we made circles and triangles using our bodies and skipping ropes. We also practised throwing and catching a tennis ball to strengthen our hands. We wiggled our fingers and made firework sounds as we opened and closed our hands.

Circles and triangles.

Today we have been sorting circles and triangles and then drawing around them. We have spoken about how many sides the shapes have and looked around the classroom to find them in our environment.
