Stanley St Andrew's Church of England Primary School

Another busy and exciting Summer Term here at Stanley St Andrew’s! The warmer weather is a welcome change, and we have lots planned both inside and outside the classroom.

The team have been focusing on consolidating the learning that has been happening all year and getting the children to make links. It has been lovely to see how much children have remembered and been able to apply to new learning.

We have a busy and exciting terms ahead, filled with opportunities for learning, growth, and fun. Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to working in partnership with you to make this a successful experience for all our children.

Our values for the summer terms are trust and teamwork. With that in mind, we will be welcoming Ms Middleton back next term, which will make our staff team complete again. I know that the children and staff will make her feel like she has never been away and our thoughts and prayers continue for her family.

As part of this focus, children will get the opportunity to take part in lots of team sports within PE leading up to sports day. In addition to this, Mrs Richardson is working with the sports partnership to get events set up that our children can also attend. Each lunchtime, the sports crew will work to set up a range of activities for the children. This could include parachute activities, practising for sports day, dancing and traditional games. Inclusion is an important part of school life, and the PE leaders will be sharing para-athletics activities with the children, including blind football, guided running and javelin.

Communication

Class teachers will continue to communicate important information through Parenthub or class email. Please ensure you are checking these regularly to keep up to date with what is happening. Please can all the information regarding teaching and learning, along with photos that you might want to share, be sent to the class email rather than the office or headteacher. We continue to celebrate the events that children do outside of school, and it has been lovely to see the photographs of the different achievements that our children do in their spare time.

Information regarding attendance, collection or payments needs to be sent to the school office for Hayley to update the registers. Any information about after school club needs to go to afterschoolclub@st-andrews-pri.derbyshire.sch.uk  email for Miss Barnes to process and share with staff. Remember if you are having someone else pick your child up, we need to know before the event as no child will be allowed to leave without notification from a parent. Please have regard for our workload at this busy time of year and only email our team when it is essential.

Celebrating Successes:

We were so proud of our heads and deputies, who started the term by meeting and greeting parents at parents' consultations. It was lovely to see how much Elsie, Oaka, Thomas and William had grown in confidence, showing parents around and helping staff to keep the evening moving smoothly.

Freyja donated ear defenders to the Children's emergency department at Derby Royal Hospital. We’re incredibly proud of her for recognising how overwhelming noise can be for neurodiverse children attending the CED. Her thoughtfulness and compassion truly shine through in this small but meaningful act. Freyja continues to live out our school values both in school and in the community. Well done Frejya.

A huge well done to Jacob, who went to play rugby for the Leicester Tigers, scoring 4 trys and putting in some big tackles. We are very proud of you.

Christopher and James did a sponsored walk to raise money for library books for school. Wearing our school sweatshirts, they had a great walk and saw some amazing views. We are so proud of their achievements to have this opportunity to walk in God's beautiful world is a gentle reminder of how lucky we are to have such opportunities. The boys raised a staggering £205 well done.

Collective Worship

We continue to enjoy the range of worship on offer in school. In particular, we have had Rev Hunt in on Mondays to support this work being done. Part of our SIAMS focus was for children to have a better understanding of prayer and to promote children being advocates. We can see from some of the success that children are starting to think independently.

The children are working hard on organising an event for the local community, a sing-along event to combat loneliness in church on the 24th June at 10 am. This event was led by the children from the simple question of what could we DO to support our local area. The children are also creating happy messages and images to post in letter boxes in our village to put a smile on someone's face from an act of kindness.

TTS Rockstars

We are very lucky that a parent is supporting us in the purchasing of this package. This program helps to support children's mental maths recall and supports teaching and learning in school. I have monitored the use of this package and sent out passwords to those children who have not logged on in the last month.

Reading

Having monitored reading, we still have many children in school not reading to an adult on a regular basis. Reading is the key to all learning and has a massive impact upon children’s ability to write and indeed spell. All children need to read daily as best practice and this should be with an adult who can support their sounding out of unfamiliar words or help to expand their vocabulary by asking questions.

We are working hard to create a new library area in the Mandela Hall. Having purchased a number of new books, we are slowly building up new reading materials which the children will be able to access later in the term. If any households have good-quality books that you no longer want and would be happy to donate them, we could use them in our library. In addition to this, if any parents would like to purchase books, we are focusing on the non-fiction genre.

Below shows the number of children who received raffle tickets last week for reading four times a week at home to an adult.

Governor's input

At the last Parent Consultations we were privileged to have two staff members from the ‘Compass Changing Lives’ organisation. Their set-up in the Parents/Carers waiting area was bright, welcoming and informative.

Who are they?

Compass Changing Lives provides prevention and early intervention emotional wellbeing and mental health support to Children, Young People and Families (CYPFs) across Derby and Derbyshire.

In their words,"We are a compassionate and friendly team who are here to help support children and young people’s mental health. We provide free and confidential emotional health and wellbeing support for children and young people with mild to moderate emotional health and wellbeing needs'.

We were lucky enough to have Megan and her colleague support the evening. Her quiet, compassionate, empathetic persona enabled parents and carers to ask questions, make enquiries and simply feel more confident in engaging with the service. The many layers to the service can involve navigating feeling sad, scared or worried about providing  parent and carer support around improving their knowledge and understanding of how best to support and improve their child’s mental health and wellbeing.

The link below takes you to their website where you can find different methods of getting in touch.

Our commitment to not wasting food

FareShare is the UK’s national network of charitable food redistributors, made up of 18 independent organisations. Together, they take good quality surplus food from right across the food industry and get it to nearly 8,000 frontline charities and community groups.

The food we redistribute is nutritious and good to eat. It reaches charities across the UK, including school breakfast clubs, older people’s lunch clubs, homeless shelters, and community cafes. Every week we provide enough food to create almost a million meals for vulnerable people.

We have been working with Fareshare for over 3 years and have been able to support not wasting food within our community. Our team support a number of families in our school community who may just need a little help. If you know of anyone locally that could benefit from us being part of this project email the school office.

Careers Events

10th July Careers Day

14th July Careers Day

This year we have planned two days when children will be exposed to discussions about careers. If there are any parents or grandparents who would be happy to come to school and talk to a class about the job they do, this would help to support the event. We are looking for a range of job roles to give the children the breadth and balance of the types of jobs on offer currently.
