Summer 2 Overview
Fruit kebabs:
Today we made the fruit kebabs that we planned for last week in our DT lesson. We enjoyed making, eating, then evaluating our kebab at the end.
Science:
Year 1 children completed an experiment looking at what items float and which sink and discussed the reasons why they thought it happened for different materials. Year 2 have been looking at absorbency and investigated what materials are in a nappy to ensure absorbency. Year 2 then design a new nappy for babies.
Creating:
Reception children made a town within small world. They made a road, a railway, a farm and houses.
Maths:
We have been focusing on careful counting with year 1 children and recapping shape with year 2.
ICT
The reception children,supported by the year 2 children, were turning on the computers and logging onto active learning.
Fractions:
Year 2 have been using play dough to help recap fractions.We have looked at halves, quarters and thirds.
Parachute games:
We enjoyed playing lots of different parachute games to focus on our listening skills.
Going on a bear hunt:
Wow we have read the story Going on a bear hunt and acted out scenes from the story before break the story down into beginning, middle and end. We created a large story path to show the events of story. We also included key word, phrases and adjectives.
Maths:
We have been completing a wide range of maths activities. The children have used a range of resources to support our learning with part-whole models, divisions and tens and number work.
Adjectives:
Today in literacy we have been talking about adjectives and how we can describe a tree. The children had some fabulous ideas and worked as a team to write them down.
Peak Wildlife trip:
Wow what an incredible day! Parks have had an amazing day seeing so many different animals and getting really close to them as well, so they could talk about the different features that make each animal unique to their natural habitat.
Geography:
We have looked at different types of land and we were finding slopes tricky so we went outside and experimented with some water.
RE exploring different faiths:
The children have been exploring items from two different faiths today, Islam and Judaism.
Team building:
Great teamwork shown this week. We have been focusing on working together, turn taking, sharing and listening to one another.
Left and right:
We were finding left and right tricky so we went outside and did some side stepping and movements to different instructions using directions. This also links to our computing to give instructions to begin to code.
Geography:
We had a great afternoon looking at the world and discussing what countries and oceans we know. We made jigsaws with the world and continents. Great teamwork shown as well.
