Autumn 1

Autumn 1 Overview Have a look at what Autumn 1 looks like!

Thank you for bringing in your WOW homework. We love how you have presented your work!

We are writing an imaginative letter in the role of a World War II evacuee, describing our experiences, feelings, and surroundings as if we were living through that time. This is our letter mountain to help us write our letters.

In Year 5 and 6 history, starting the World War II topic often feels like opening the first page of a tense, gripping novel. Pupils step back to 1939, a time when Europe was on the brink of chaos, and learn how the invasion of Poland by Nazi Germany triggered Britain and France to declare war. They explore the political tensions, the rise of powerful leaders, and the fragile peace that crumbled after the First World War. Through maps, photographs, and personal accounts, the class begins to understand not just the events, but the human stories—families separated, children evacuated, and communities transformed. It’s a journey that blends facts with empathy, helping students see how a global conflict reshaped the world forever.

In our first P. E lesson of the year, we practised ball skills.
