Feel Good Friday live music activity streams.

OT (Puffin Class) and AT (Robin Class) joined in with this week's session and heard the Shout Out for our school!

Band Leader Tommy will cover:

  • Steps & Leaps: A game to help the children recognise the distance between two different pitches. Are the notes close together or further apart?
  • Mystery Instrument: Can KS1 guess the instrument being played. What is it? What it is made of? What does it sound like? 
  • Sing & Sign: The final week of learning 'Shotgun' by George Ezra. We'll recap all the words and Makaton signs and put it all together.
  • Happy: Tommy performs the Pharrell Williams' classic 'Happy' which should send us all into the weekend with a smile on our faces.

Band Leader Paul will cover:

  • Music From Around the World: This week we head to India. Paul will teach KS2 how to play along and count to a traditional Indian tabla rhythm.
  • Musical Word of the Week:  What is a musical scale and how do they work? Plus there's a game to identify major, minor, and traditional Indian scales.
  • Sitar or Guitar? Paul will play some classic rock & pop riffs on different stringed instruments. Can KS2 work out if it’s a sitar or a type of guitar?
  • Paint it Black: Paul performs a Rolling Stones classic called ‘Paint It Black’. Can the children hear the Indian musical influences and sitar motif in the song?

  • Pitch Detectives: Tommy helps the children understand and recognise pitch with this interactive game.
  • Mystery Instrument: We will be learning all about different instruments in this guessing game. Can the children figure out which instrument Tommy is talking about from his descriptions?
  • Sing & Sign: We'll continue to sing and sign 'George Ezra's' popular song 'Shotgun' focusing on learning the lyrics, melody and Makaton signs for the chorus of the song.
  • Twist & Shout: Learning facts about 'The Beatles', Tommy ends with an energetic performance of one of their most famous songs!

  • Music From Around the World: Paul will be taking KS2's on a journey around the globe to discover traditional music from various countries. This week we're learning about Folk Music.
  • Musical Word of the Week: Paul will talk about acoustic instruments, how they make their sound and compare them to electric instruments.
  • Acoustic or Electric: Putting them to the test can the children tell the difference between these two types of instruments?
  • I Will Wait: Paul performs a song by folk rock superstars 'Mumford & Sons' so the children can hear the influence Folk has had on modern music! 

Band Leader Tommy will cover:

  • Duration Investigation Part Two: Tommy is back teaching the different durations of musical notes. Will the children be able to predict which instruments will make a longer note, or shorter note?
  • Rhythm Clock: Can the children read and recognise the different rhythms around the clock and put what they have learnt about 'duration' into practice?
  • Sing and Sign: We continue to learn George Ezra's, 'Shotgun'. This week the children will learn the words, melody and Makaton signs for the pre-chorus of the song.
  • Get up and DANCE: Tommy finishes off the half term with a performance of Walk the Moons, 'Shut Up and Dance'.

Band Leader Paul will cover:

  • Tuned or Untuned? Paul kicks off this week with a game all about tuned and untuned percussion instruments. Can the KS2's guess which are which?
  • Rhythm Clock: We're back with the rhythm clock where the children are learning to read and recognise rhythmic notation, adding a rest into the mix.
  • Musical Words of the Week: 'Time signature'. We'll learn all about time signatures and how to recognise them.
  • Rock History - Foo Fighters: One of the biggest bands in the world today. We'll discover how the Foo Fighters have already contributed to Rock history. Plus, Paul will finish with a performance of 'Times Like These'.

Band Leader Tommy will cover:

  • Duration Investigation: A new active listening game that will help children understand duration and how different instruments can play long or short notes.
  • Where am I? We experiment with some fun sound effects to see if the children can start to visualise what they are hearing.
  • Sing & Sign: Continue to learn to sing and use the Makaton signs for the verse of George Ezra's hit 'Shotgun'.
  • Happier: To finish off the livestream Tommy will cover this Bastille and Marshmellow song and get all the children bopping along.

Band Leader Paul will cover:

  • The Rhythm Clock - This week we take the rhythm clock up a level, to see if the children can read and recognise rhythmic notation.
  • Family Focus - For the final week of exploring all the different families of instruments, we look at the keyboard family. Do the KS2's know their synthesisers from their pipe organs?
  • Musical word of the week - We will learn about motif and what a musical motif is and how they are used in some of our favourite songs.
  • Mamma Mia - Learning about the pop phenomenon that is ABBA, we end with a special performance of Mamma Mia.

Band Leader Tommy will cover:

  • The Rhythm Clock: To help the children recognise and read simple rhythms, using words like 'Tea & Coffee'. This is the first step to understanding musical notation.
  • Dynamic Detectives: The children are putting on their detective hats to work out when music changes from loud to soft, or soft to loud.
  • Sing & Sign: We'll be re-capping the Makaton signs for 'Three Little Birds', before moving on to sing and sign a new song by George Ezra
  • Can't Stop The Feeling: Tommy will perform this hit Justin Timberlake song from the movie 'Trolls'!

Band Leader Paul will cover:

  • The Rhythm Clock: Using the musical notes, KS2 try to spot the crotchets, quavers, minims and semibreves with Paul's very own rhythm clock.
  • Family Focus: We will learn all about the percussion family, what the instruments have in common and take a closer look at a few of them.
  • Musical Word of the Week: This week we learn all about crescendo. KS2 will discover what it means for the dynamics of a song to crescendo.
  • Rock History: We're heading back to the 1970's to learn about the legendary band Fleetwood Mac and Paul will finish by playing some of their greatest hits.
KS1 sessions run Friday 22nd January from 1:30 – 2:00pm 


Band Leader Tommy will cover:

  • Rhythm Clock: The rhythm clock is back. Tommy helps the children read and recognise rhythmic patterns using our tea and coffee rhythm cards. 
  • Dynamic Duo: This game introduces the children to the idea of dynamics in music. Can they start to spot the dynamic differences?
  • Three Little Birds: It's our third and final week on this Bob Marley classic. The children will learn to sing and Makaton sign the verse, and then we'll put it all together.
  • Feel It Still: Tommy will be using all four instruments to perform this hit song by Portugal The Man.
KS2 sessions run Friday 22nd January from 2:00 – 2:30pm 

Band Leader Paul will cover:

  • Duration Drumkit: Paul will be introducing two new musical notes and using different parts of the drum kit to understand more about duration.
  • Family Focus: It's time to learn a little bit more about the Woodwind family of instruments. We will talk about some of the instruments in the family, what they sound like and how they are used in music.
  • Musical Word of the Week: This week's musical word is 'arpeggio'. We build on the interval knowledge the KS2's gained last week and introduce the concept of chords and arpeggios.
  • Rock History: We take a look at composer John Williams and his amazing catalogue of work from the Harry Potter theme tune to Jurassic Park.
